Local Government Study
In June 2024, residents in the City of Bozeman voted to approve the local government study. This opportunity is provided for in the Montana Constitution and only happens once every 10 years. In November, citizens will vote for the five candidates who will serve on Bozeman’s study commission and the seven who will serve on the county’s study commission. These commissioners are given the opportunity to review the current city charter, interview city employees to learn what is and isn’t working for them, and, most importantly, engage with the public. It doesn’t take much to look around our city and clearly see that the current City Commissioners are failing miserably, and while the local government study does not provide for the opportunity to replace them all, it is our chance to think critically about both the form and plan of our local government and put forward solutions that can reverse the downward trajectory of our once beautiful city.
